The News is Good – Safety First in 2018!

Our MD and owner Bryan Hindle spent the afternoon with our Health and Safety guru, Nigel Deane to discuss vibration measurement. Nigel has been instrumental in helping make Brick-Tie a safe place to work. Through his company, ND Safety of Sheffield, Nigel has trained our managers and staff. The goal being to carry out our duties safely and in compliance with the health and safety law.

Yesterday was about vibration measurement. The tools our wall tie and crack-repair technicians use vibrate a lot. This can cause harm known as ‘Hand arm Vibration or ‘white finger’. Of course we don’t want that to happen. Read on to see what we are doing about it..

A state of the art three-axis data recorder was demonstrated. Following this, over the next few weeks, Bryan will be taking careful measurements of the vibration magnitude our employees are exposed to when drilling, chiseling and grinding masonry.

We’ll have accurate measurement of vibration, which is crucial for assessing employee exposure levels and reducing any potential for harm. As Bryan says “Our technicians can look forward to a long career in specialist building repair. It’s vital that we do not allow hidden hazards like tool vibration to build-up over time and injure their long-term health”.

Too late, we’ve been trading for over 30 years? No, Brick-Tie already have a system of controls in place for vibration risk. However, with acquisition of new technology and effort we believe that our employees are at the lowest possible risk of harm from their work.

Great Health and Safety Practice

Great health and safety practice, including vibration measurement is part of general good company management. It demonstrates we are serious about our mission; to deliver quality structural repairs, diligently and safely. Consequently all of our projects (large and small) are assessed for risks to employees, customers and others before we start work.

Structural repairs and wall tie work are inherently hazardous. Call Yorkshire’s experts to make sure your project goes smoothly and safely
