As part of our push to keep our employees safe and healthy we are sponsoring a weekly ‘Boot Camp’. This is in tune with this year’s national drive so Brick Tie Help Britain Work Well.
This isn’t only about avoiding accidents at work. We want to inspire as many employees as possible to get fit and healthy. We’ve found a great strength and fitness trainer in David Hudson and he runs special boot camps every week for our team in his brand new state-of-the-art gym.
Those staff who can’t attend the weekly session or would prefer to train without their colleagues can book separate sessions to the main group, paid for by Brick-Tie. This means that as many employees as possible can start getting or keeping fit and healthy.
Why? well research has shown that regular exercise is not only good for our physical health but also for our mental health and well being. It also improves concentration and awareness – essential for safe working, especially in construction trades like wall tie replacement, structural repairs and drilling work. Regular exercise also decreases the chance of strains and pulls at work, like back problems and back-pain. In the event of an injury, those people who keep themselves strong and fit recover more quickly and have better long term outcomes than obese or unfit folk.
There’s also the useful spin-off of the fun we have training together and the prospect of a longer and healthier life – even long after we’ve retired from the world of wall tie work.
This week the employee nominated for putting the most effort in at the weekly boot camp is Darren Roberts. Darren is now the proud owner of a 500g jar of SunPat crunchy peanut butter! We can expect his muscles to grow even bigger now, with all that protein…
Well done Daz.
