Equality, Diversity and Discrimination Training

On Friday the 12th July, we took some time out to come together for some scheduled training. The day’s itinerary included equality, diversity and discrimination training by Sharni and Barry from the fantastic Flagship Partners.

This training has helped to increase our awareness and understanding, and I think we all took a lot away from the course.  Training in Equality, diversity and discrimination helps us to create an inclusive work environment, which allows every member of the Brick Tie team to thrive and feel valued.

Everyone was engaged by the talk

A big thank you to Flagship Partners for providing this essential training, which will help us all professionally and personally.

We then stopped for lunch and as it was a Friday there was only one thing to have, Fish and chips!

Abrasive Wheel Training

Next up was abrasive wheel training. Our operatives frequently use abrasive wheels such as disc cutters so it’s essential that they are trained to use these safely. The course raises awareness of the risks associated with the use of abrasive wheels. This will help improve our technicians risk perception, encouraging better ownership of issues associated with abrasive wheels.

Tool Box Talks

We also provided a tool box talk on Silica dust and the importance of being clean shaven. Facial hair can interfere with the respiratory protective equipment (RPE) face mask seal, which can stop it from working effectively. The mask can’t protect the wearer if it leaks, so it is essential that we remind our technicians of this and the risks of dust.

What else did we get up to?

The day also included maintenance checks on the technician’s dust masks, hand health surveillance checks and ladder inspection checks. Inspections and checks like these are all carried out at regular intervals throughout the year to ensure we are looking after ourselves, each other and our equipment.

The day ended with a staff debrief, where we talked about the previous week, what went well and what didn’t. We discussed projects which had been completed and what was booked in for the week ahead so our technicians could prepare. The team comes together every Friday to do this.

Training days like this are something we will always make time for, as spending time together as a team makes us stronger and helps build our relationships with each other. Developing our skillset is just the cherry on the top!

If our trained team could help you with an upcoming building repair project, please contact us.
